BOAT SHOES GIVEAWAY AND BLOG PART 2

Break Your Boat Shoes In

Now that you’ve chosen a pair of boat shoes, it is vital to break them in. Once they are broken in you can wear them any time with maximum comfort. To break in your boat shoes slowly work yourself into wearing them for a small amount of time each day.

Walk around your house wearing them in or rock them simply going out to run an errand. Only wear them for a short time at first, like an hour or two. Slowly work your way into adding an hour or two more until they are comfortable enough to walk around in.

The Rules

The truth is that there are no rules when sporting boat shoes, but we do have recommendations on how to best rock your cool boat shoes.

  • Avoid wearing your best boat shoes in the winter. Boat shoes are a wonderful choice for the spring and summer when the weather’s at its best, but once autumn and winter hits the design doesn’t match too well with winter wear, and the incoming snow and rain can easily ruin your delicate boat shoes.
  • They may not be sandals, but no socks when wearing boat shoes. Put your barefoot forward and don your boat shoes with pride and confidence.
  • Never rock a tuxedo or a suit with your boat shoes. While you can get away with boat shoes and trousers, boat shoes weren’t created for a fancy event. Keep your boat shoes away from all black tie events and instead pair them with khakis or jeans.

Boat Shoe Socks

Yes, I’ve just said that you shouldn’t wear socks with boat shoes, but hear me out. Many people in the world don’t like wearing shoes with bare feet (I’m one of them so I know the struggle). If you’re also peeved about going commando with your feet, you shouldn’t let feet etiquette put all that pressure on you. There’s an infallible way to get around this issue. Simply wear invisible socks! Get your hands on a few pairs of rich cotton no show socks and nobody will ever know that they’re even there. Now you can comfortably wear your boat shoes totally stress-free.

How To Wear Boat Shoes with Jeans

Perhaps the most ideal option to sport with boat shoes are jeans. Jeans, as an article of clothing, are extremely versatile and complex on their own, but this versatility is able to match well with boat shoes, because it creates a variety of looks.

Basic Blue Jean

One can don a pair of basic blue jeans and a neutral coloured boat shoe. Simply cuff the bottom of the blue jeans to add a more casual laid back vibe to the overall outfit. This works extremely well with slightly distressed denim and paired with coloured flannel. The boat shoes are able to calm down with this outfit combination, yet the cuff draws attention to your feet in order to show off your shoes.

Dark Wash/ Black Skinny Fit

Another way to wear boat shoes with jeans is to wear a dark wash or black skinny jeans with the boat shoes. Black or dark wash jeans make the look seem more sharp and slick. While the skinny fit of the jean, provides a well fitted look. To incorporate boat shoes into this outfit, add black boat shoes to create an all-black look or slip on a colourful pair to add a pop of colour. On top wear a Henley top or a black leather jacket.

Colourful Trousers

One can also wear boat shoes with coloured jeans. trousers choose to go with a dark blue or navy boat shoe. Whereas a red trouser, may be better paired with a brown boat shoe. The coloured trouser and boat shoe pairing may appear complicated at first, but simply use your own judgment for it is almost always right.

Shorts

Similarly, boat shoes correspond well with shorts. Often shorts and boat shoes are a fantastic match in the summer and on vacations. The best boat shoes for this pairing tend to contain a lighter feel and look to them. Avoid clunky and darker coloured boat shoes when pairing with shorts. As well as, wear shorts that are a bit longer and flared at the end. The light and airy feel of the shorts and boat shoes complement one another and together create the perfect look for the summer and springtime.

History

Boat shoes appeared in 1935 and were invented by none other than Paul Sperry, the inventor of the popular Sperry Top-Sider brand. As the name boat shoes reveals, Sperry created boat shoes for sailors in order to prevent them from sliding about on the decks.

His inspiration for the soles of the shoes came from his dog, Prince’s paws, with the textured grip helping him stay steady even on slippery surfaces. Now, over 80 years later, the boat shoes are no longer just for boats. They are a fashion statement that even city dwellers are getting their hands on.

How to Wear Sperrys

Brown Sperrys are a classic when it comes to boating shoes. Not only they’re a classic for deck shoes but they’re a great example of an iconic leather shoe. This dark brown pair can easily transition from summer to the early days of fall when there’s still a bit of sunlight in sight. Pair them with a pair of black skinny jeans, a white or navy shirt and a mac to complete your look.
